How can we afford a sustainability coordinator?

This position pays for itself through energy savings.  Many
sustainability coordinators will even agree to sign a contract whereby
they don't get paid unless they generate enough energy savings to cover
their own salary.

What exactly do you do for a living?

I’ve essentially been working as an independent contractor for a few
years now, and the work I do is pretty varied. Most is film related,
although I also shoot the occasional music video or commercial. I am
currently editing someone else’s journals for publication, and may help
with a film course at Frankfort High School next semester. I do not
feel the need to seek a ‘day job,’ although I have excelled at them in
the past (including as a crew leader for my father's construction
company). I’m in healthy demand as an independent contractor, and have
to frequently turn down work as it is.

There is staggering waste in Frankfort City government. What steps would you take to correct this serious problem?

I agree that the waste in city government is staggering right now. I believe we need more accountability within each department’s budget and work force. I think the most important thing to establish is a better system of oversight. Right now there’s no easy way to identify exactly who (and which departments) are underperforming, other than with anecdotal information (which is valuable, but hardly thorough). I believe that a properly managed work-order system can go a long way towards bringing transparency and accountability to each department’s budget, allowing us to trim a lot of fat out of the system.

You can read more about my plans to save our city both energy and money in the 'My Hopes for Frankfort' section of this site.

How is a filmmaker qualified for the City Commission?

My first film (The Dangers of Dreaming) was shot for about $10,000, and went on to win awards at film festivals all across the country, even when competing against movies that cost millions of dollars. We were able to get by on such a small budget by creatively using all the resources available to us to get the job done (as opposed to simply trying to acquire more money, which is the norm in both film and politics). I intend to bring this ethic of conservation to the City Commission.
