Property Maintenance Code Enforcement

Property maintenance code enforcement is an especially complex problem for the city. Houses that are are visibly falling apart reduce the property value of surrounding houses, as well as being an eyesore and a potential danger to residents and their neighbors.

While I believe that property maintenance codes need to be enforced, I also recognize the fact that some homeowners simply cannot fit repairs into their budget. I will support increased public outreach and education regarding low-cost and no-cost ways to comply with the codes, and will pursue grant money to help restore historic and low-income buildings. I will not hesitate to penalize irresponsible landlords who have no concern for their tenants or the surrounding neighborhood.
